Welcome to the Rhode Island Mobile Sportfishermen website!
The Rhode Island Mobile Sportfishermen, or RIMS, fishing club was founded in 1958 by a group of fishermen that frequented East Beach and the Charlestown, Rhode Island area. As a family oriented club, RIMS was organized with a mission dedicated to the preservation and conservation of our coastal resources, as well as maintaining public beach access. Today, RIMS continues its stance on public beach access, preservation & conservation, and the protection of our fisheries. Visit our mission page for a more thorough and detailed explanation of our history and mission.

Monthly Meeting

The next monthly RIMS meeting is scheduled for Sunday November, 11th 10:30 am. Check out the Meetings Page for details and meeting agenda. Unless otherwise noted, RIMS meetings during the winter months are always scheduled for the second Sunday of the month beginning at 10:30am. Following the Spring Outing, RIMS meetings are scheduled for the second Friday of the month beginning at 7:30pm. There is no December Board meeting.

Sand Trail Restrictions

Please Drive slow between the Piping Plover Signs.

Storm Update on the Property

The road is still very passable, some breaches occurred where the walkways are. The dunes before us took a beating, but are still intact. The pipes marking the trail were about 60 inches high from the sand when cleanup was done…are now 35 inches high, so we gained about 25 inches of sand. 80% of dune grass we planted has been buried. Charles town breach way was totally breached on the south side, which is the opposite side from the campground. Westerly town beach was devastated; most of the sand is in the road all the way up to Andrea. We were very fortunate.

Piping Plovers

As of June 3rd, there are now 6 nesting pairs of piping plovers on Quonnie Barrier Beach. The closest nesting pair to the RIMS Beach Property is now inside the roped off "overwash" area. This nest is estimated to hatch July 1st. One nest has hatched and several were predated in late May. So far, the majority of the nesting pairs are in the middle section of Quonnie Beach, between PVC poles 80 and 100. Be sure to check out the Piping Plovers page on the site, which contains general information about plovers, links to the USF&WS piping plover website, as well as the weekly statistics I receive from Wendy about the plovers on Quonnie.
